Day-by-Day Breakdown of Your Journey
Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania
Welcome to Tanzania! Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where a Tanzania Authentic representative will greet you and transfer you to our partner hotel in Arusha. Take this day to relax and prepare for the adventure ahead.
Day 2: To Londorossi Gate – Start Trek to Mti Mkubwa Camp
After breakfast, we embark on a scenic drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. Our trek begins through the verdant rainforest where the chirping of exotic birds fill the air, and with luck, you might spot colobus monkeys. We set up our first camp at Mti Mkubwa, nestled among towering trees.
Day 3: From Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
We leave the forest behind and enter the heath and moorland zone, where giant heathers loom like natural skyscrapers. As we reach Shira 1 Camp, the West Kilimanjaro plains stretch out below us, offering a breathtaking panorama at sunset.
Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut
Our trail continues across Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on earth. We explore the fascinating volcanic rock formations at Shira Cathedral before ascending to Moir Hut, an isolated spot near the Lent Hills which affords us more acclimatization opportunities.
Day 5: Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp
As we venture deeper into remote territories, the landscape changes to alpine desert. The trek to Buffalo Camp involves a climb to the top of a ridge then down into a ravine, with spectacular views of the plains far below.
Day 6: Buffalo Camp to Rongai Third Cave
Today’s journey involves circumnavigating the mountain’s northern slope, offering unparalleled views and a sense of isolation. Prepare to be mesmerized by the rugged beauty of Kilimanjaro’s rarely seen northern face as you approach Rongai Third Cave.
Day 7: Rongai Third Cave to School Hut
We continue ascending through increasingly barren landscapes. Tonight, we camp at School Hut, where we rest and prepare for the summit push.
Day 8: School Hut to Uhuru Peak – Descend to Millennium Camp
The ascent begins around midnight. Under the starlit African sky, we traverse steep scree slopes to reach Stella Point on the crater rim. With renewed vigor, we push for Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Standing at 5,895 meters, the feeling of achievement is indescribable. After celebrating, we descend to Millennium Camp.
Day 9: Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate – Return to Arusha
With the hard work behind us, we have a leisurely descent through lush forest to Mweka Gate. Our vehicles await to take you back to the hotel in Arusha, where a warm shower and celebratory dinner await.
Day 10: Departure or Extend Your Adventure
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight home or extend your adventure with a safari or a relaxing trip to Zanzibar with Tanzania Authentic.
